Our MISD high school swim coaches are currently attending a Texas Interscholastic Coaches Association (TISCA) conference in Austin.

Gold, Bronze I-II and Novice I-II groups will adhere to their normal Fri/Sat practice schedules.

Senior, Senior II, Junior and Silver Fri/Sat practices are cancelled.

Learn-to-Swim classes are not affected.

As you know, this will be a very busy weekend for our club. We have swimmers competing in the TAGS Long Course Champs in Austin as well as the TRS B/C Short Course Champs in Grapevine. With so many of our swimmers and coaches on the road, we’ve decided to cancel Friday’s evening practices. This cancellation will only affect the Novice and Bronze swimmers. Friday’s morning practices are not affected.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this e-mail, please speak with your coach before or after today’s practice.

MAC Parent Meetings

The Mansfield Aquatic Club has scheduled parent meetings. Please join us in the natatorium classroom at one of the following times:

The purpose of the meeting is to give an overview of competitive swimming, provide contact information and discuss parent involvement, and answer questions.

First, swimmers will need to stay very well hydrated this weekend. Temps are projected to pass the century mark. Parents, please take good care of yourselves as well.

Anyone wishing to do the open water event Sunday is welcome to enter. Brian has reminded me that any swimmer (A, BB, B, C) may swim the event. Also, there will not be a late entry surcharge if you'd like to deck-enter the open water event.

Gold, Junior, and Senior swimmers who are not attending a meet tomorrow will practice from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m.

MARS "A" meet entries are due Monday.

Gold swimmers are reminded that they should enter the 200 fly and/or 200 breast and are encouraged to enter the "open water" event.

Non-A swimmers wishing to swim in the "open water" event on Sunday, June 6 may compete.

Here are portions of a note from MARS head coach Brian Dangelmaier regarding their upcoming "A" meet:

As you make your plans to join us at the MARS A Invitational on June 4-6, I wanted to take an opportunity to point out a few changes that have been made the University of Texas at Arlington aquatic facilities in the ten or so years since our last meet there.

The outdoor pool has been completely remodeled within the last few months. Gone are the 10-meter diving platform and the eight foot high brick walls that surrounded the pool giving it the cozy, yet stifling, “hot-box” feeling we all remember in years past. The walls have been replaced with open wrought iron fencing and the deck has been resurfaced. The starting blocks were replaced last month with new ones and are now installed in the deep end of the pool. The rubber liner system in use for many years has been replaced with newly finished gunite walls.

We will have covered bleacher seating for approximately 250 and a “grassy knoll” adjacent to the pool entrance for tents. Additionally, the deck area around the adjacent 6-lane indoor warm-up pool will be available for shaded seating. Ample free parking will surround the pool. We will also have several sealed coolers available around the deck serving water and Gatorade to the athletes, coaches and officials.

We’re working very hard to insure this meet is a great experience for everyone.

I’d also like to remind everyone of the Pool Open Water (POW) event scheduled for Sunday. This event is open to all swimmers in the LSC. There are no time standards. This event is certain to be a lot of fun for the competitors. I’m hoping all of you have made plans to stick around for this event.

Mustang "A" Timeline Changes

Start times for Sunday's sessions have been moved up! Read more here.

Session 3 (12 & under) warm-up is from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. and the meet will start at 8:00 a.m.

Session 4 (13 & over) warm-up will begin as soon as Session 3 concludes. The meet will start one hour after Session 3 concludes.

The current timeline indicates that Session 3 will end at around 11:30 a.m. If the session should end much sooner than estimated, Session 4 events will begin no earlier than 11:00 a.m.

Swimmers in events 51 & 52 (400 free) may be required to swim two-to-a-lane to stay within the meet schedule.

Parking passes for the weekend will be $10.

This weekend we are hosting a BB meet at our pool. It is our first ever "solo" meet. Unfortunately, the emails that I have composed to the entire team, requesting food and drinks for hospitality and help working at the meet, are not getting sent due to a change in the gmail system at the Natatorium. So, if you would please read the attached list of requests for hospitality and send it to anyone whose email address I do not have or pass along the information verbally. We need help for all 5 sessions- timers, head timer, runner, clerk of course, marshalls, etc. If you or your swimmer, age 10 or over is available to work at the meet, please let me know. Our team is hosting a BB meet May 7-9. We are requesting help with donations of food and beverages for this meet. The donations will be used for the hospitality room and for the timers. Please remember that our team does not conduct fundraisers because hosting meets is our opportunity to generate revenue. Our Gold group is doing a great job this spring as we approach our first "BB" and "A" meets. Change can sometimes be difficult, but the kids are adjusting quite well to new terminology and a change in routine.

They're starting to get more comfortable with their snorkels, too!

Looking ahead to next month, we are hosting a "BB" meet (May 7-9) and Mustangs will host the "A" meet (May 14-16).

Workout attendance and efforts have been excellent. Let's keep it up, guys and gals!!!

Thanks so much to all the volunteers from the B/C meet last weekend, especially the Sheppards, McClendons, Pappas', Tiptons, and Lorias who worked all weekend and did not even have a swimmer at the meet! You all are awesome!

So... now it is time for me to start asking about what you may be interested in doing at the A meet coming up April 23-25. We need all the usual positions- marshals, timers, head timer, runners, Daktronics, Clerk of Course, etc. MARS wants to be the lead on the computer, but we can have one assistant per session. I have already spoken to several of you and have added you to my spreadsheet in the position that you requested. Also, if you have a swimmer age 10 or older that may not be participating in this meet, we would love their help as timers!

LAC "A" Invitational Sunday January 17:

Due to the high demand of requests to change the meet start time on Sunday, January 17th (NFC Divisional playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings noon start on FOX) LAC felt the need to accomodate all involved (Swimmers, Coaches, Officials and Volunteers). Therefore the warm-up and start times for Sunday's session of the LAC "A" Meet are as follows:

7-7:30 am Group 2
7:30-8 am Group 1
8-8:15 Dive starts all teams

If you're planning to compete in the Frisco "BB" meet in January (8-10), entry forms/information is ready. Entry deadline is Monday, December 28th.

Entry forms/info for the Lakeside "A" meet (January 15-17) is also out. Deadline is Monday, January 4th.

If you need entry forms, ask your coach for a copy.

2010 USA Swimming Registrations

North TX Swimming's financial close out took place yesterday. USA Swimming registrations received after December 15th will be processed in January. A listing of swimmers who are registered can be found on the Mansfield Aquatic Club page of our website. Swimmers not yet registered will remain ineligible for any club activities until their 2010 I.D. card has been issued by NTS.

If your child is registered, please check the list in the lobby to see if his/her I.D. card has arrived. A parent or guardian will be asked to sign for the I.D. card.

Results from the national championships in Seattle are here. MAC was represented by MHS senior Melanie McClure. She was our first-ever national championships finalist as she finished 14th in the 200 backstroke.

MAC was 9th in team scoring at the COR Classic "A" meet. Results are here. Sara McClendon took first in three events (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 50 butterfly).

MAC placed 7th at the COPS "BB" meet. Results are here. Event winners were Andrew Limpert (100 I.M.), Will Tullbane (500 freestyle & 200 backstroke), Parker Sheppard (200 freestyle & 200 butterfly), and Ben Ramirez (400 I.M.).

MAC is currently 8th in North Texas in the Virtual Club Championship. We're ranked 473rd in the nation. View those rankings here.

The 4th Annual Mansfield ISD Swimming and Diving Invitational will be held this Friday and Saturday at the MISD Natatorium. Friday's Swimming Prelims will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by Diving at 6 pm. Swimming Finalists will warm-up on Saturday at 9:30 am with competition beginning at 11:00.

Please make note of the following cancellations:

The GOLD group has had a good month of November. 88% of our group met the attendance goal of 90%. Colin, Mike, Will, Lauren and Mauren achieved new "A" cuts.

MAC's own Melanie McClure (MHS/'10) has signed a letter of intent to compete for the Longhorns. UT head coach Kim Brackin and her assistant Jim Henry are very excited to have Melanie on board.

Brackin on McClure: "Melanie impressed me by making the tough choice during this decision process; she comes from a long line of Aggies, but decided for herself that being a Longhorn was what was best for her. She has all the tools for becoming a valued asset at the NCAA level; I think her determination, passion and teammates will help put her in that position. Cody Huckabay has done a great job of getting her to race at the national level but, as she gains strength and a higher level of training intensity behind her 6-1 frame, I think the sky is the limit."

Thanksgiving Break Practice Reminders

Monday through Wednesday, MAC will run a modified practice schedule.

Morning swimmers (Jr. & Sr.) are swimming from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Afternoon/evening practices for all groups will be at the regular times.

Busy Weekend for MAC Swimmers

MAC will be represented at three different meets this weekend.

Many of our swimmers are attending the TRS "BB" meet at Grapevine. The warm-up schedule is here. Directions to the meet are here.

Please arrive early and make sure swimmers are checked in for all events.

A few of our swimmers will be in the North/South All Star meet in Southlake. Coach Salazar is on the North staff, coaching the 13 year old boys' squad. More info on that meet is here.

Five of our senior-level swimmers will be competing in the USA Swimming Grand Prix meet in Minneapolis. Word is the meet will be covered on SwimNetwork. A psych sheet for the meet is here.

Also, if you haven't registered your child for 2010, please do so well before the Christmas break. It takes time to process the paperwork, so taking care of this early will ensure that your child will not miss any practices or meets while registration forms are in the "pipeline".

Novice

We have split our novice swimmers into three groups. Working with these smaller groups will help us catch more mistakes and get swimmers more feedback. Our ten and under swimmer did a fantastic job at Little Splashers! I am also excited about all the entries for our next swim meet on Halloween weekend. I will be out of town that weekend, but I wish you all the best of luck!

Bronze

The technique of the bronze swimmers is looking awesome! Our next meet is Halloween weekend, and we will be working on starts and turn before then. We will also be working on using the clock more and putting on sets on time intervals to prepare for silver.
